When reading a portion of scripture, we need to get beyond just skimming; running one's eye over words penetrates nothing. It is like skipping a rock over the surface of a pond. Meditation gets us deeper than quick reading. Our desire should be to connect with our Lord. As we do this, renewing our mind will naturally occur. As you listen to January 22's sermon and meditate on Psalm 37, you will get much more, like Mary when she sat listening to Jesus. Martha did not have time for the one thing that was important, seek first the Kingdom of God. As you slowly consume Psalm 37 ask the Holy Spirit to teach you, to counsel you, to enlighten you. Seek God in all that you read.
Psalm 37 (NLT)A psalm of David. 1 Don’t worry about the wicked 2 For like grass, they soon fade away.
Trust in the LORD and do good. 4 Take delight in the LORD,
Commit everything you do to the LORD. 6 He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
Be still in the presence of the LORD, 8 Stop being angry!
For the wicked will be destroyed, 10 Soon the wicked will disappear.
The lowly will possess the land 12 The wicked plot against the godly;
But the Lord just laughs, 14 The wicked draw their swords
But their swords will stab their own hearts, 16 It is better to be godly and have little
For the strength of the wicked will be shattered, 18 Day by day the LORD takes care of the innocent,
They will not be disgraced in hard times; 20 But the wicked will die.
The wicked borrow and never repay, 22 Those the LORD blesses will possess the land,
The LORD directs the steps of the godly. 24 Though they stumble, they will never fall,
Once I was young, and now I am old. 26 The godly always give generous loans to others,
Turn from evil and do good, 28 For the LORD loves justice, He will keep them safe forever,
The godly will possess the land 30 The godly offer good counsel;
They have made God’s law their own, 32 The wicked wait in ambush for the godly,
But the LORD will not let the wicked succeed 34 Put your hope in the LORD.
I have seen wicked and ruthless people 36 But when I looked again, they were gone!
Look at those who are honest and good, 38 But the rebellious will be destroyed;
The LORD rescues the godly; 40 The LORD helps them, |
